SEPTEMBER 2017 NEWSLETTER

The next meeting will be on Monday,September 18th at 7pm.The meeting will be at Hank Schlomka’s Garage at 5465 250th Street East, Hampton,Mn, 55031 . See you all there! Hank has some neat machines, you do not want to miss this meeting.

AUGUST MEETING HIGHLITES

  • Spring Picnic at Neal and Christine’s was held on Saturday, July 8th after Car Show at Twin Rivers, thanks to Neal & Christine for hosting. We had a new club photo of cars and members as a panoramic picture for our Facebook page by Jennifer Quade.
  • Discussed fall Picnic and Matt & Inga Weierke volunteered their house on Saturday, September 16th starting at 4pm – 5:30pm Social & Games&Swim, 5:30 -6pm Dinner Served,7pm Door Prize Awards program. Members with last name starting with A-M bring dessert to pass; N-Z bring salad or hors d’oeuvre’s. Club provides everything except special beverages.(Vino &Barley pop).
  • The Vino in the Valley dinner cruise will be on Saturday, October 14th. Will leave city commuter lot at 3:30pm for dinner at vino at 5pm. Get your reservations to Doug LaRock at meeting or call at 507-263-2460.
  • Bill Hoyt will check with Chief Jeff to see if his dept needs something we can donate for which is not budgeted for.
  • Scott said he will ask Jennifer to check on web sites also since Ken is recovering from surgery.
  • Discussed the Country Cruise with many ideas for location, routes, extra attractions and even different days, Scott will check with various people and report at next meeting.
  • The cash collected for the CF Food Shelf will be donated in March 2018 for matching fund month along with Club funds.

JUNE/JULY MEETING HIGHLITES

  • The Friday evening cruise route is the southeast route, Cty 24 to Cty 9 to Cty 56 to Cty 25 and return to city lot. 30 miles long and about 40 minutes. Bill Hoyt has checked with County Engineer and all these roads will be clear by August 4th.

  • Donation to the Cannon Falls Chamber for City Flowers for $50 was approved.

  • Ken V. is in the process of checking out various web site hosts for our web site that fits our needs for 2018.

  • We discussed our annual trip to Vino in the Valley and decided that for most members to attend we would do around the first two weekends of October.

  • The Garden Rehab Center has requested that we have a car display for the residents again this year. It will be on Tuesday, August 22nd starting at 10am and ending at 11am with lunch to follow.

  • Scott will ask Mark Norton about more details on his suggested raffle of his 1960 Chevrolet and report back at next meeting.

  • With the Friday Cruise on August 4th fast approaching please call Scott or Gary if you are able to work doing parking, signs, greeting, collecting canned goods,etc. You can have family members help also, Scott-507-263-5535, Gary- 507-263-4622

JUNE 2017 NEWSLETTER

  • Spring Picnic at Neal and Christine’s was cancelled do to severe weather and is rescheduled for Saturday, July 8th after our Club display at Twin Rivers Senior Campus, 4pm on ,same schedule as before.

  • Our club site at BTT50’s, June 23rd-25th at the Mn State Fairgrounds is by the Horticulture Building at Underwood and Carnes, the SouthEast corner with our pop up awning under the pine trees, so join us for shade and relaxation after walking and checking out 13,000 street rods, bet you don’t see them all!

APRIL MEETING HIGHLITES

  • Rosemount High School has requested some classic cars for their celebration on September 23rd. Denny contacted the coordinator that we could supply 6 cars.The members suggested referring to the Southern Cruisers also.

  • Scott Quade will award our selection for the Scholarship of $500 at the Cannon Falls High School Awards program.

  • The Cannon Falls chamber still needs volunteers for the Bike Race.

  • Bill Hoyt and Fran Swain attended the Cannon Falls City Council meeting in April and all was approved with no questions.

  • Fran Swain will be checking on arranging a tour of the Koch Refinery for the club in May for 1 hour.

  • Neal Sjoquist has received the OK from his wife Christine for our spring picnic on Sunday, June 11th at their house. Mark your calendars now! Thanks to Neal and Christine.Agenda as follows; Arrive at 4pm for games and social, 5:30pm Meal time,7pm Awards Program and Door Prizes. Members with Last Names starting A-M bring Salad to pass, Names N-Z bring Desserts(Sweets) to pass, Club provides all utensils, main course, some beverages. Bring own Vino,Malt beverages for mass consumption.(Just kidding). Motion was unanimous for expenses.*****CANCELLED******

  • We voted unanimously to pay Net Firms $13.49 domain name protection for one year.

  • Bill Hoyt and Fran Swain will attend the Cannon Falls City Council meeting in April to be present to answer any questions about the August 4th country cruise for new Council members.

  • Fran Swain will be checking on arranging a tour of the Koch Refinery for the club in March or April.

  • We currently have 20 paid up dues members with only 2 former members unpaid.

  • The Friday Evening Cruise committee was formed to take care of advertising and sponsors, Scott Quade, Fran Swain, Bill Hoyt and Doug the Rock.

  • Neal Sjoquist has received the OK from his wife Christine for our spring picnic on Sunday, June 11th at their house. Mark your calendars now! Thanks to Neal and Christine.

  • Members discussed various charities and settled on Xmas Family Sponsorship and will ask Jennifer Quade about our clubs participation.

  • We discussed many ways of advertising Friday Evening Cruise and Gary will send info into the MSRA Linechaser for publication.

  • The Scholarship Award Selection committee of Scott,Doug and Richard will select recipient and Scott will present $500 award.

  • We discussed Netfirms web site hosting fees and will be looking into other hosting sites for next year, Scott suggested that we look into the site he uses for his business.

  • Discussed routes for Friday evening cruise and the majority thought a cruise utilizing the SOGN valley would be good if roads are clear. Gary, Doug and Richard will check out a route.Need to avoid left turns and will need to go down 4th street and nursing home.

  • We voted unanimously to give the Cannon Falls Food Shelf a $300 donation after suspending quorum rule as we were short one member for vote by by laws.

  • Gary to send email to Cannon Falls City Manager about reserving City Parking Lot and surrounding streets for reserved parking for Friday cruise.

  • Fran Swain will be checking on arranging a tour of the Koch Refinery for the club in March or April.

  • Dues are still due, $20/yr and please pay to our acting Treasurer, Dennis Sjoquist. Remember if dues not paid by April 1st you might stop receiving the monthly newsletter. You can mail your dues to Denny at 32288 County 25 Blvd, Cannon Falls,Mn. 55009.

JANUARY MEETING HIGHLITES

  • For this years Friday evening cruise, It was unanimously voted to share advertising on our flyer and the Lions flyer for the weekend of August 4th as the Lions will be having a Country Music Festival at the Cannon Valley Fairgrounds on Saturday the 5th.

  • Discussed routes for Friday evening cruise and the majority thought a cruise utilizing the SOGN valley would be good if roads are clear. Gary, Doug and Richard will check out a route.

  • The Summit Brewery tour went well with 5 members going and we checked out the different beers that we might use at a Daytona 500 party, then we toured the Axman and stopped at Harbor Freight on the way home.

  • Web site yearly fee of $180.39 is due in February for site hosting and domain name. There was a unanimous vote to pay. Denny will mail check.

  • Fran Swain will be checking on arranging a tour of the Koch Refinary for the club in March or April.

  • As of the January meeting we had 13 paid up members for 2017, dues are payable by April 1st to Dennis Sjoquist. $20.

  • The Friday Evening Cruise committee was formed to take care of advertising and sponsors, Scott Quade, Fran Swain, Bill Hoyt and Doug the Rock.

  • Denny reported that our 1st adopt-a-highway pick up will be the first week in May.

  • It was voted unanimously to pay Chamber of Commerce Membership dues of $100 .

  • John Lee was present after surgery on December 15th and all is well for him and he has a lifetime warranty now.He is leaving for Arizona on the 28th and will return 1st of June.

  • Dennis Sjoquist will be acting Treasurer and Vice President for John Lee and Bob Bryan while they are in Arizona basking in the sun.

  • Dennis welcomed another new(old) member, John Bing who is an original charter member that took some time off and is now back in the fold and of course he is a FORD guy with a beautiful late model Mustang.Welcome John!

  • Fran Swain and Gary Sigmeth and Bill Hoyt are arranging club tours during the winter months .One being a combo tour of Summit Brewery and the Axman tool shop in January 2017, more details later.

  • We discussed the Scholarship Award for the Cannon Falls High School and a motion was made and 2nd to continue for 2017 with $500, unanimous vote in favor.

  • We all express our healing wishes to our members recovering from surgery or having surgery and the they will be ready for cruising season in 2017.

OCTOBER MEETING HIGHLITES

  • Thanks to Neal & Cristine for hosting our October meeting and the treat after meeting was exceptional as always.
  • A Nominating Committee was appointed of Dennis Sjoquist, Fran Swain and Ken Volness to come up with a slate for next years 2017 officers. Stay by your phone and await the call!
  • Dennis welcomed our two new members; Richard Johnson & Bill Hoyt. They both gave an introduction about themselves and their vehicles. Welcome Richard & Bill.
  • We received a Thank You from the Home Town Market staff at St. Pius church for having some of our classics on display in front of church.

SEPTEMBER MEETING HIGHLITES

  • Discussed having the Vino in the Valley dinner cruise on Saturday, October 1st. Leave Cannon Falls Commuter lot across from Bandshell at 3pm. Dinner reservations are for 5:30pm with lots of activities at the winery before dinner. Significant others are invited also.For more info: vinointhevalley.com
  • As October will be a busy month for activities, Gary will send out a list of events by email and snail mail to those members without internet service.
  • John Lee gave the Cannon Valley Foodshelf the money collected at the Friday cruise of about $400. The discussion was that we revisit the Food Shelf donation in February of 2017.
  • Some of the members suggested a lunch cruise on Wednesday, October 5th with possibly with the Wanderers to Plum City,Wi and all sites along the way. Leave Cannon Falls Commuter lot at 11am
  • John Lee reported that he had received a thank you from the Food Shelf for the donation of 250# of food after the cruise.
  • Adopt-A-Highway pick up program will be done on Saturday morning, October 15th. Optional breakfast at Cafe52 before at 8am, start from Cafe52 lot at 9am. We need at least 12 members to get this done in a timely method.See you all there!
  • There was a unanimous vote to donate $50 to the Feed the Starving Children Program, John will give check to Scott to distribute.

SEPTEMBER CLUB NEWSLETTER:

AUGUST MEETING HIGHLITES

  • The Friday Evening Cruise was a success, we had 174 cruisers and 200 lbs of food for Cannon Valley Foodshelf and $382 cash. It was topped off with beautiful weather.
  • Seven of the members took their rides for display at the Garden Rehab Center on Tuesday, August 23rd from 10:30am to 11:30am and the residents really enjoyed viewing the classics and brought back many memories,
  • The club picnic at Matt & Inga’s house was well attended and many awards were given out. Ken Volness won the $100 attendance award. Inga won the women’s $50 gift certificate.For member awards, Bob Bryan was awarded the Stanley Steamer award. Thanks to Matt & Inga for being such gracious hosts.
  • John Lee was given discretion by the members as to how the funds should be distributed to food shelf either now or in March of 2017 for matching funds.
  • All the members commented on the excellent food service on the cruise by the Lions and it is assumed that they will do again next year.
  • There was some discussion to cruise the Sogn valley for next years Friday cruise.
  • The Wanderers club of Rosemount have requested a joint lunch cruise with our club on a Wednesday, we will pick a date at the September meeting.
  • Doug will be setting up our annual dinner cruise to Vino in the Valley at the September meeting, so check your calendars for a Saturday that works.

JULY MEETING HIGHLITES

  • The really BIG COUNTRY CRUISE is Friday, August 5th with lineup starting at the Cannon Falls High School west parking lot at 5pm with departure for a 17 mile country cruise around Lake Byllesby and ending at the City Parking Lot. We can use all members and friends help directing cars into lot, collecting food shelve donations,collecting fees etc. Hope to see you all there!Some of us old retired dudes will be there at 4pm to set up traffic cones, barricades and awnings, sound pa equipment.
  • Thanks to the Cannon Falls Lions as they will be providing food and refreshments at the High School and the City Parking Lot so we are encouraging all members to patronize the Lions as all their profits go to the various community service projects.
  • Thanks to Doug we have assembled about 51 door prizes to be given out by number ticket and trivia questions at the high school as well as the city parking lot, so remind the cruise participants to hang on to those tickets.
  • Doug, Gary, John and Ken will place cruise direction signs on the cruise route about mid day Friday so all turns along the route will be marked.
  • We have a new member, Richard Johnson from Nerstrand with an original 1955 3100 Chev pick up. Welcome Richard, we all hope to meet you at the cruise or the next meeting.
  • Matt & Inga will again host our fall picnic with tentative Saturday pm, Matt will have a date for us at the August meeting.
  • Gary will mail cruise flyer to all local radio stations for community news and promotion of cruise.
  • Doug will be setting up our annual dinner cruise to Vino in the Valley for September or October- more details later.

JUNE MEETING HIGHLITES

  • In July we will have two meetings on July 18th and the 25th at 7pm at Neal’s to facilitate cruise planning details. This is a test for senior moments.
  • Lots of lunch cruises and evening cruise ins to start in May, watch the newsletter for dates. May 17th,Tuesday evening is the 1st Henderson,Mn. Cruise In.
  • Doug has collected a number of door prizes as well as trinkets for our goody bags and he will need help assembling the bags.
  • Doug and Gary cruised the cruise route in the Buick convert while charting mileage and turns etc. while cruising chicks. The total mileage for the cruise is 17 miles and we would like to mark all turns with arrow cruise signs and use our good signs in town. We will be going by the Dairy Inn on our return to town.
  • We had a visitor, Larry Olson from Dennison who is considering joining, he is restoring a chev elcamino. He is also a friend of Richard Miller.
  • Neal Sjoquist’s tour of the White Rock Dairy was awesome and gave all the members a great appreciation of the milk business and all the work required to produce a certified product- Thanks Neal.
  • Dennis reported that QA-1 Shocks in Lakeville is having an open house on July 15th
  • Chuck Hoffman reported that the Cannon Falls Lions will be our sole food vendor for the Friday Cruise at the High School and the City Parking Lot- Thanks to the Lions.
  • The Outstanding Car Club Name from BTT50’s was the Gas Holes from Hutchinson,Mn.
  • For those members needing a club jacket get your jackets into Burvee Embroidery in the Commercial zone north of town.

  • The Club Spring Picnic was on Sunday, May 29th at Neal and Christine’s house. It was well attended with Jennifer Quade the recipient of the women’s doorprize and Doug LaRock the men’s recipient. Many awards were given, David Sandquist, the Frequent Flyer award for longest distance to club lunches, John Lee for the Jeepers Creepers award at the club competition at Pine Island in 2015. Special thanks to our hosts Neal and Christine as everyone had a great time.
  • Discussed using the Lake Bylesbye cruise route for the Friday evening cruise, Scott has driven the route and said so far it is ok. We will need to modify route so we go by Dairy Inn as they are one of our Sponsors.
  • The Cannon Falls 4th of July parade is strict this year because of liability, all registrations with proof of insurance are due in by June 15th and only Club Cars are allowed. Gary sent in registrations for 8 to 10 classics with him certifying all entries have insurance.Scott will purchase candy and was approved for $100 worth.
  • Neal Sjoquist has set up a Tour of White Rock Dairy for Monday, June 13th at 7pm, so watch your email if cancelled because of rain etc.,at 11755 County 1 Blvd, 4.5 miles East on 1 after turning left off highway 52.
  • Denny thanked all the helpers for adopt a highway program as we are in our 21stThanks to Stuart,Cannon, Scott, Fran, and Matt.

OCTOBER MEETING HIGHLITES

  • Congratulations to the club on completing our 20th year of doing the Adopt-A-Highway program. The members that helped on October 3rd were:Scott,Al,Cameron,Cannon,Bob,Gary,John Lee, Doug the Rock, Ken and Denny.
  • Membership: we have had 2 inquiries on membership but no applications so far.
  • Correspondence: Thank You from the Cannon Valley Food Shelf for our donation of 154 pounds of food. We will be donating cash in March of 2016 when funds are matched.
  • Web site was determined to be ok as the scam was for collecting money from the internet.
  • The nomination committee for 2016 officers was appointed by President Matt Weierke as follows: Matt Weierke, Richard Miller and Scott Quade. Please wait by your phone for the call!
  • We had 26 people on the Vino in the Valley dinner cruise and the weather was beautiful and we had a special place to park our rides. There was talk about making this an annual event.
  • The lunch cruise to Lake City on Wednesday,November 4th was great as we had lunch at a Mexican restaurant which everyone had their fill of food with good gas mileage for the trip home.Gary,Denny,Ken,Doug and Bob participated.

  • The Friday Night Cruise on the 31st of July had 140 plus cars and the weather was perfect and the route was great as always. The cruise for 2016 will be the Lake Bylesbye route so plan accordingly.We had $108 and a 55 gallon drumful of canned goods for food shelf.
  • The Dairy Inn is having a Cruise In on the first Sunday of each month from 3pm to 6pm. Some of the Hasting s guys have been attending. The September date is Sunday, September 6th. Lets support Mike if you can, he treated Richard and Myself to a meal for displaying our cars.
  • Sale of the club pedal cars was agreed and voted for $300 by Tom Fritz Sr.
  • Tom Fritz Jr. turned in his resignation as Vice President effective at July meeting.Will need Board of Directors to nominate a replacement for next meeting.
  • The Club After Cruise Picnic will be at Matt and Inga Weierke’s house on Sunday, August 30th starting at 4pm with swimming and games, 6pm the club will provide the meal, 7pm awards and door prizes. We will have 2x $50 gift certificates(1 woman & 1 man)+ $100 attendance award. Bring swimming suits, chairs, favorite beverage other than water or pop.(e.g. Barley pop or Vino).   • The Scholarship Committee selected Garrett Beach as the recipient of the Cruisers’ post-secondary scholarship. Matt W. will present the award at the Cannon Falls High School Awards program on May 20th.
  • The Dairy Inn is having a Cruise In on the first Sunday of each month from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Some of the Hastings guys have been attending.
  • Sale of the club pedal cars are on hold until Tom F. Sr. attends meeting.
  • Discussed Little Log Show and no interestwas  expressed because of fee required and attendance is for all day.
  • Doug showed the 2 logos and the members voted for the logo with the circle and Doug will have a sample at June meeting.
  • Motion made to approve picnic expenses of $300 for gift certificates and food, passed unanimously.
  • Denny thanked all that helped on the Adopt-A- Highway program. It was the smallest amount of trash ever and we had a short crew.

 MAY 2015  NEWSLETTER/APRIL  MEETING MINUTES

The next meeting will be on Monday, May 18th at 7 p.m. at Gary Sigmeth’s Garage. See you all there!Please note change in location!!!!!

           MARCH MEETING HIGHLITES:

  • Currently, there are 18 members paid up in the club. If you are not up-to-date, please submit dues to Dennis Sjoquist, our acting pro-tem Treasurer, while John Lee is sojourning in Arizona.
  • Please keep Tom Fritz Sr. in your thoughts and prayers as he is currently dealing with some serious health issues and undergoing tests.
  • The Scholarship Committee was appointed by Pres. Weierke – Gary Sigmeth and Director Doug LaRock will meet before April 15th to pick this year’s scholarship recipient. Matt will present the scholarship at the Cannon Falls High School Awards program on May 20th.
  • It was decided that  we will charge $5 per car plus donations of canned goods and cash to the Cannon Falls for the Friday (July 31) Evening Cruise. Doug L. suggested that we have gift bags for each car.
  • Jim Pagel from the Cannon Valley Fair has requested a convertible from the club to transport the Grand Marshall of the Independence Day parade. We decided that we would have a members convert available,
  • The Spring Club Picnic will be at Neal and Christine Sjoquist’s on Saturday, May 30th. The Awards Committee will be Doug,Gary,Scott and Denny and any member that would like to help, Marcia has made up lots of award plaques.
  • Discussed spring dinner cruise to Unique Classic Cars in Mankato and dinner at Wow Event Center. A 150 mile round trip, about a tank of gas with the Big Blocks.
  • Doug will report on status of the new logo at the May meeting and a vote will be required.
  • Reviewed Gary’s rough draft of Cruise flyer and approved 100 copies to be made at Beacon.
  • Shepard’s Center is requesting volunteers for ticket selling at Cannon Valley Fair.

 April 2015  NEWSLETTER/MARCH  MEETING MINUTES

  MARCH MEETING HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Currently, there are 17 members paid up in the club.  Please submit dues to Dennis Sjoquist, our acting pro-tem Treasurer while John Lee is sojourning in Arizona.
  • The Scholarship Committee was appointed by Pres. Weierke, Gary Sigmeth and Director Doug LaRock will meet before April 15th to pick scholarship recipient.
  • It was decided that for the Friday Evening Cruise on July 31st, we will charge $5 per car plus donations of canned goods and cash to the Cannon Falls Foodshelf.

  • The tour of Dick’s Hot Rod Shop was excellent and many thanks to Dick for showing us all a good time, showing us his projects, his personal collection and his shop as well as sandwiches and drinks – great hospitality!
  • The Spring Club Picnic will be at Neal and Christine Sjoquist’s on Saturday, May 30th.  The awards committee will be Doug, Gary, Scott and Denny and any member that would like to help.
  • David K. is still working on setting up a member’s only section for our club website should be ready by April
  • Doug L. showed the logos for the club jackets, etc
  • Goodhue County has requested our club for Hazardous Waste Collection volunteers for Thursday, June 4th and Wednesday, July 22nd at Lake Byllesby Park.
  • Discussed spring dinner cruises such as Pine Island cruise-in on May 16th and another cruise-in to Vino in the Valley or weekend trip to Dubuque,Iowa.

FEBRUARY 2015  NEWSLETTER/JANUARY  MEETING MINUTES

The next meeting will be on Monday, February 16th at 7 p.m. at Frosty Transport Garage which is on the south side of Grandpa’s Garage in Cannon Falls.

   JANUARY  2015  MEETING & HI-LITES

  • Currently there are 25 members in the club and 2015 dues are now due before April 1st – submit your $20 dues to Dennis Sjoquist our acting pro-tem Treasurer (while John Lee is sojourning in Arizona).
  • Al  F.  and  the Show Committee of Scott Q,,  Fritz’s, Mark W. will come up with ideas for the 2015 Show and will have more to report on at next meeting.
  • Tom F.  Sr. reported on that, according to the state, a Poker Run is gambling and we would have to keep all kinds of records. The alternative is to have skill or talent games like lug toss into hubcab, sparkplugs in cylinder head etc.
  • Tour of Dick’s Speed Shop in Lakeville is set up for March 16th meeting.
  • Denny will take care of foodshelf donation in March with David K. who is the current President of the local foodshelf,  so we should get some good press on our community service project.
  • David K. is still working on setting up a member’s only section for our club website.
  • Doug L. is working on a new club logo with his son that he will present at next meeting. This will cost us about $150 and then we will own the design and it will be sized for use on T-Shirts,Caps,Jackets,Quilts, Blankies,Victoria Secret wear etc. of the members’ choice.
  • Discussed spring dinner cruises such as Pine Island cruise-in on May 16th and another cruise-in to Vino in the Valley or a weekend trip to Dubuque,Iowa.
  • Upcoming swap meet at Friendly Chev and GSTA show is slated for the end of April at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum.

The next meeting will be on Monday, January 19th at 7 p.m. at Twin Cities Rod and Custom in Pine Island, Mn. You can either meet us there or meet at the Cannon Falls Commuter Lot for car pooling at 6:15 p.m.,  leaving at 6:30pm sharp.

  DECEMBER   2014  MEETING & HI-LITES

  • The Officers. by unanimousBBallot, for 2015 are: Matt Weierke- President; Tom Fritz Jr.- Vice President; Scott Quade – Board of Directors;  Jonny Lee – Treasurer; Gary Sigmeth- Secretar.y
  • Membership stands at 25 members, with Jerry Carroll our newest member. Welcome to Jerry – a former member who has re-upped to once again cruise with us.
  • Gary will call TC Rod & Custom in Pine Island to set up tour and next meeting.
  • Al  Fliegel met with the Show Committee to come up with ideas for the 2015 Show and will have more to report on at next meeting.
  • The Cannon Falls High School OK’d the use of the west parking lot and restrooms for our Friday night cruise at a rent of $125 (a custodian must be on duty at that time).
  • Doug LaRock is planning a Club trip to Iola,Wi for the huge swap meet on July 11, 2015. All interested in going contact Doug soon.
  • Santa LaRock passed out the gifts for the exchange and Jake received Cemore Butts this year. We can be assured that it will be passed on next year!
  • Special thanks to Rick & Marcia for being our hosts for our annual Xmas meeting. All the members attending had a great time and left filled with many culinary delights from Marcia’s kitchen.

NOVEMBER   2014  MEETING & HI-LITES

  • The nominees for officers for 2015 from the nominating committee are: Tom Fitz Jr., Vice President, Board of Directors, Scott Quade;  Secretary,Gary Sigmeth; Treasurer, John Lee.
  • Membership at 25 members with Jerry Carroll our newest member. Please join in welcoming to Jerry – a former member whom has re-upped to cruise with us.
  • The Friday night cruise for 2015 will stay the same except the lineup and start location will be the Cannon Falls High School parking lot with access to the inside bathrooms.
  • Tom Fritz Sr. will line up a tour of Dick’s hot rod shop in Lakeville after the 1st of the year.
  • The Adopt-A-Highway program went well with 15 people helping and our club will be starting our 19th year of doing this project.
  • Many ideas for the Car Show for 2015 were discussed such as show and shine, chili feed and poker run with 5 stops to include Dan’s Bar, Kings, Welch Tavern etc.  The show committee will come up with a firm plan by the December or January meeting.
  • Congratulations to Doug LaRock on his retirement, now he can finish the ’40 and the Treehouse!
  • Remember Rick Clemens is still our largest Cylinder Index member!!!!

OCTOBER   2014  MEETING & HI-LITES

  • Our car show was rated the 3rd best in Minnesota by the Drifters President Jim Aschenbacher.
  • The members voted to have a car show for 2015, it was not a unanimous vote with 3 nays.
  • John Lee reported that all advertisers are paid up – no deliquents.
  • Gary will check with Jake Winchell about use of the CF  High School parking lot for the Friday Evening Cruise with report at next meeting.
  • Mark W. brought to our attention a fundraiser with Buffalo Wild Wings for discussion and it was felt that not enough members eat at these restaurants to make it worthwhile for the time being.
  • David K.  is in the process of writing an article about our car show for the MSRA Linechaser.
  • Tom F.  Sr. will set up tour of Dick’s Hot Rod Shop in Lakeville for some Saturday morning.
  • Tom F.  Sr. reported that when we use the pedal cars we need a rider on our insurance which would be $90-100 per event.
  • Motion was made and 2nd to increase our scholarship award to $500 for 2015, vote was unanimous in favor.
  • Neal S. appointed the nominating committee for 2015, Tom F.  Sr., Neal and Scott Q. will report at November meeting.
  • Adopt-a- Highway program to be Saturday,October 25th starting at 9am at the CF Country Kitchen.

  • There will be a vote on the 2015 Car Show and Cruise at the October meeting so le’ts have a quorum on this important vote.
  • Tickets for the Ricky Nelson Memorial Concert on Saturday, October 18th, are available from Dennis S. and Loren E.—lets make it a club outing!

AUGUST  2014  MEETING & HI-LITES

  • 23 paid up dues members as of this meeting.
  • Show report: 64 cars + 12 Club cars. Best year for walk-in spectators, approximately $1,500 profit after expenses.
  • Need to think about rules for use of pedal cars for next meeting … specifics on issues such as liability, rental fees,  etc.
  • Matt & Inga W.  have volunteered their house for our Club Picnic on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th, starting at 2 p.m.   Their address is 22650 Pinto Lane, Lakeville. Phone: 952-985-2321. Last names A thru M bring a salad to share; names N thru Z bring desserts to share. Bring: Special beverages, swim suits, games, folding chairs, kids. Club will provide burgers, brats, hot dogs, all utensils,  etc.  Agenda: 2 p.m start, 5 p.m. dinner, 6:30 p.m. Awards and Drawings.  There will also be a $50 gift certificates for 1 man and 1 woman and a $100 attendance award.
  • Vino in the Valley cruise slated for  Sunday, September 28th, leaving the Cannon Falls Commuter Lot at 11 a.m. and arriving at Vino about noon for dinner.  Please RSVP to Gary or Doug by September meeting.
  • The Annual Leaf Cruise with the Drifters will be on Sunday, October 5th,  with registration from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Goodhue County Fairgrounds in Zumbrota (on County 6 on the  north end of Zumbrota). The cost is $20 per vehicle, which includes 3 game tickets and 2 chili feed tickets. We will leave the Cannon Falls City Commuter Lot at 9:30 a.m. as a group, or those south can meet us at the Fairgrounds. This cruise is Rain or Shine!
  • Scott Q. is checking on the sound system that Grandpa’s Garage is trying to sell.
  • Awards committee meeting at Country Kitchen at 8a.m., Saturday August 30,  and then Frosty’s Garage for assembly.

   JULY  2014  MEETING & HI-LITES

  • 23 paid up dues members as of this meeting.
  • Mark W.  brought the 6 new directional signs and banner samples, looked very professional – Thanks Mark.
  • Al F. will ask Hank Schlomka about a meeting and tour at his garage for our September meeting on Monday, September 15th.
  • The Friday night cruise route is all ok’d with the CF Police Chief and ready to roll.
  • Matt & Inga W. have volunteered their house for our Club Picnic with a tentative date of SUNDAY, September 7th starting at 2 p.m. with dinner at 5 p.m., awards at 6:30.p.m.
  • Tenative date for Vino in the Valley cruise for a SUNDAY brunch, Sunday, September 28th, leave Cannon Falls Commuter Lot at 11 a.m. and arrive at Vino about noon for brunch.
  • The awards committee is composed of: Gary, Doug, Scott, Denny, Tom plus any interested parties. Meeting time to be arranged at August club meeting.
  • Evaluation of Cannon Valley Fair club display was generally a success and was worth the time and exposure.
  • Sound system for Car Show and Cruise is reserved from EMI sound for the weekend at $92 for 500-watt system with 2 speakers.

  • Drifters Leaf Cruise will be Sunday, October 4th with registration at Rochester Walmart North from 9 a.m. untill 11 a.m.

  • The Scholarship Award  was presented at the Cannon Falls Award Ceremony at Cannon Falls High School by President Neal S.  The recipient was Ron Digarmo.
  • The Car Show Flyer will be in the MSRA Linechaser June issue.
  • Scott reported that the advertising for the flyer is  100% complete.
  • The Club web site is being worked on by David K. especially for members only.
  • Motion was made and seconded to make decisions on signage  and banners at June meeting.
  • David K. still needs your car pictures for the revamped web site.
  • Back to the 50’s will be at the State Fairgrounds with the club awning at Underwood and Carnes for members to hang.
  •  Show Committee volunteers: Al F. ,Scott Q. ,Fritz’s, Mark. Any member with ideas for the show please contact the committee members.
  • We will have a club display at the Cannon Valley Fair on Thursday, July 3rd from 3:30 p.m. till 8 p.m. They will have a spot for us on the grass by the main entrance and we will have to monitor our cars with members.
  • The members  voted to donate $50 to Vince Cockriel’s WWII Museum.
  • Denny thanked all that participated in the Adopt-A-Highway program. We had 20 volunteers- the most ever.
  • Gary handed out registrations to Little Log Show the last Saturday in July.
  • Gary  gave info on new Hot Rod Stamps to be released June 24th by USPS.

May 2014  NEWSLETTER/APRIL MEETING MINUTES

 The next meeting will be on Monday, May 19th at 7  p.m. at Vince Cockriel’s World War II Museum at 33504 Warsaw Trail, Cannon Falls. Take highway 19 west to Oxford Mill Road and turn left, then take Oxford Mill Road south for 2.7 miles, next turn right onto County 24 Blvd. for ½ mile to Warsaw Trail, turn left onto Warsaw Trail and Vince’s place is 354 feet from turn. See you all there and bring your rides, Vince’s driveway is gravel so drive slow.

  APRIL  2014  MEETING & HI-LITES

  • Next meeting will be at Vince Cockriel’s World War II Museum, Monday, May 19th.
  • The Scholarship Award  will be presented by President Neal S. at the high school at a Wednesday, May 14th awards ceremony on behalf of the Cannon Cruisers.
  • The members voted to include a flyer 8 ½ x 11 in the MSRA Linechaser at $390.
  • Scott reported that the advertising for the flyer is  100% complete.
  • Dinner and Museum cruise on Saturday, May 24th leaving Cannon Falls at 11 a.m. to LaCrosse, WI to the Dahl Auto Museum about 1:30 p.m.  Dinner will follow at Piggy’s Restaurant at 4 p.m.  R.S.V.P. at meeting or to Gary or Al.
  • Mark your calendars for the Annual Spring picnic on Saturday, May 17th at Chris and Neal Sjoquist’s starting at 4 p.m. for games and dinner at 5:30 or 6. Bring your rides as we need an updated club picture for David K. Club provides all main course food, members with last names A to M – Salad to pass, names N to Z –  Dessert to pass.   • Neal will arrange the WWII museum tour for this spring .
  • The Scholarship Award Committee members are, Neal S., Richard M. and Gary S.
  • Show committee to have preliminary flyer and a proposition to vote on putting a flyer in the linechaser MSRA for $390. Same classes as last year.
  • Scott reported that the advertising for the flyer is  half done and will have flyer printed when advertising complete.
  • Dinner and Museum cruise on Saturday, May 24th leaving Cannon Falls at 11 am to LaCrosse, WI to the Dahl Auto Museum and then dinner to follow at Piggy’s Restaurant.R.S.V.P. at meeting or to Gary or Al.
  • Mark your calendars for the Annual Spring picnic on Saturday, May 17th at Chris and Neal S.’s. Bring your rides as we need an updated club picture for David K.

  • Yearly Membership dues are due(dew,do,etc.) and Denny is collecting $20 for each member. The last day for “dewness” is March 31st!

  • Denny had emergency surgery today 2/25/14 at Red Wing Mayo for a ruptured appendix, lets pray for him and wish him well soon.

  • Election results: Neal S., President, Matt W., Vice President, Doug L. ,Board of Directors, John L.,Treasurer, Gary S. , Secretary. This was a unanimous ballot with no dissensions.
  • The wording for the scholarship was discussed and corrected and was passed unanimously and Gary will give to CFHS for this years graduation.
  • Neal will arrange the WWII museum tour for next spring 201Y

  • Gary presented ideas for scholarship requirements for CFHS graduation, will be finalized at the January meeting.
  • David K. said the web site cost went over budget by $4- his bad. He needs pictures of each member’s car and a brief description to be put on the web site.   • Special thanks to Marcia and Rick for hosting our annual Xmas meeting, a good time was had by all attending.
  • The Shepard’s Center is having a Tribute musical to Buddy Holly on Saturday January 18th at the Cannon Falls High School Auditorium. Some club members have tickets already and will report at February meeting.
  • The Xmas gag gifts were plentiful and some useful things (Matt received some great earmuffs for the cold weather).  Mysteriously, Mr. C.More Butts never appeared, maybe next year!

  • October meeting was cancelled because of COLD and lack of a Quorum to have business.
  • The members voted unanimously to donate $800 to the Hastings Veterans Home now and $800 to the Cannon Valley Food Shelf in March of 2014 (so that the funds are matched by the state).
  • The members also voted unanimously to have David K. straighten out our web site with WordPress for $150/yr plus $100 yearly for domain name.
  • Next year’s Show Committee volunteers: Al F., Scott Q., Fritz’s, Mark, need to apply for MSRA voting event before October 1st.
  • Tom F. Sr. will set up tour in November of Lakeville car collection.
  • Leaf Cruise with the Drifters is Sunday, October 6th .  Leave as a club from Cannon Falls Commuter Lot at 9 am and register at the Walmart in Rochester at $15/car plus canned goods for food shelf.  Final destination for chili feed is fairgrounds in Zumbrota.
  • Dinner Cruise and Leaf Cruise: Leave city commuter lot at 3:30 pm for the Orchard Restaurant in Wisconsin for dinner on Saturday, September 21st.
  • Adopt-a- Highway will be done on Saturday, October 5th, with optional breakfast at 8 am at Country Kitchen and pick up to start at 9 am at the Country Kitchen.
  • The members voted to have the 2014 car show on Sunday, August 3rd i in order to eliminate the competition with the Dennison and Red Wing shows.
  • Rick and Marcia C. will have the Xmas meeting on Monday, December 16th, at 7 pm at their farm. Remember to bring your gag Xmas gift for exchange.
  • Doug L. is home recovering from surgery and could use some visitors to cheer him up and get him ready to get that 1940 pickup done for the road.
