Just part of the Cruisers’ picnic lineup – food, fun and fine companionship.

The Cannon Cruisers held their 2015 Spring Picnic at Neal and Christine Sjoquist’s (thanks for the use of the hall/yard), where members enjoyed an afternoon of fun, food and fine companionship.

As usual, the Awards Ceremony was the highlight of the event – as members were honored (maybe “called out” is a better word) for recent “accomplishments.”

CC Awards at Picnic

Bob Bryan earned The Long Haul Award for traveling from Minnesota to Arizona and back in his ‘34 Ford.

Doug LaRock grabbed the Who Ya Gonna Call? – Mousebusters Award. Doug was called home during Car Show 2014 to take care of mouse problem at home.

Brook Weierke was presented the How Old am I? Award.  Doug asked her the question while on our tour of Dick’s Hot Rod Shop and she replied maybe 10 or 11 or 12. She, ultimately, won $500 dollars in Cruiser money with Doug’s picture on it for guessing the correct age with the music from Jeopardy playing in the background.

Joyce Sjoquist earned the Vino in the Valley Award. She had three glasses of wine in front of her during our tour to Vino in the Valley, the result of her insistence that the waitress brought the wrong wine. This (perhaps not coincidentally) was shortly after her surgery

Gift certificate winners were Women’s were Christine Sjoquist and David Sandquist.

“One of my greatest honors is the chance to recognize the generosity by many of Minnesota’s selfless individuals who are willing to step up to address the needs they see in our communities,” Kline said. “These ‘Stars of the North’ stepped forward to make life better for someone beyond themselves – volunteering, offering a helping hand, reaching out to a neighbor to ask, ‘what can I do for you?’

In honoring the Cannon Cruisers, Kline cited the Car Club’s long-standing support for the Cannon Falls Food Shelf. Club members collect food and cash donations during their annual Friday Evening Country Cruise and Sunday Car and Motorcycle Show and Swap Meet (during Cannon Cruisin’ Days weekend).  The Club was also recognized for a variety of community projects including donating to the Cannon Falls Police Volunteers and the Adopt-A-Highway program.
